I started coming here postpartum, and it has been truly life-changing. The work has helped me tremendously — not only with pelvic floor recovery, but also with long-standing issues like sciatica, neck pain, shoulder arthritis, and more. The list honestly goes on. I have a long history of both practicing and teaching yoga, and while I still deeply love yoga, this work has been on another level. I feel genuinely strong, supported, and at home in my body in a way I haven’t in years. Laura’s classes are exceptional — intelligent, intentional, and incredibly effective. And as a bonus, she gives an incredible massage — truly next-level. I cannot recommend her work highly enough. If you’re willing to show up, you will absolutely see your body and mind transform. You will not be disappointed.

I highly recommend the functional strength classes at SOMA. Laura is the BEST she’s knowledgeable, fun, supportive and creates a welcoming environment for everyone. Classes are challenging in a good way and each class is uniquely different. You will see so many benefits both physically and mentally. I’m so thankful I found Laura and functional strength.

Laura's classes have changed how I move in the world. What I found at SOMA is a compassionate and empowering space to learn about my body. I didn't leave feeling tired and worn down with achy regrets that I did too much. I left feeling activated. Like parts of my brain were talking to my body and they were learning to.. function! I had ankle/ foot pain that would leave me limping and in tears after a small hike or a day of work. I had stopped most exercise because of it, and felt pretty hopeless. After a few months going to functional movement class once or twice a week, I was able to hike a three day section of the lost coast trail, with all its sand, rocks, boulder scrambling and uneven ground under my pack weight with no issues. I felt liberated and realized just how much I was gaining from her classes. Getting the membership was an obvious choice. Very quickly I gained new strength and confidence in my body not just in relief from the pain of old injuries and repetitive motion, but in how I carried and supported myself day to day even in small motions. I continued to practice though my pregnancy and Laura was accommodating and supportive; checking in frequently and providing modifications as needed. Through the pregnancy I was able to apply the foundations I learned from her classes to support my body though the changes. I didn't feel that end of pregnancy inability to breathe because Laura taught me how to use my diaphragm and create space in my posture. I didn't loose my ability to get up off the floor because she taught me how to use my body's mechanics. In postpartum, the same principals I learned from Laura came into aiding recovery. It's focused and intentional work that everyone can do and benefit from. Laura is attentive and really cares to help people feel better. I'm so grateful to have this in little Ukiah.

Laura is an absolutely amazing masseuse and movement trainer! I have recommended her to nearly everyone that I know because the classes are something you can’t not rave about! Everyone who I’ve brought to a class has thoroughly enjoyed it, expressed the uniqueness of the experience, and felt the powerful impacts of feeling into their bodies with Laura’s guidance. I came to Laura because I had a knee injury, my injury is not only 99% resolved, but I can now feel into the role each of the muscular lines surrounding me knee (and beyond!) is meant to play and interpret my body in the ways I may be facilitating or prolonging pain. There’s no great way to describe it, you just gotta come and feel the impacts yourself! The classes are transformative and the massages feel amazing. 10/10 would recommend!
